Advantage Health Centers/Detroit Health Care for the Homeless is a nonprofit agency committed to improving the health of the individuals and communities we serve. Advantage Health Centers receives significant funding through Public Health Service Act, Section 330, 42 U.S.C. 254b, and is therefore designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).

Because Detroit does not have enough primary care physicians to serve its population, it is considered a medically underserved community. Advantage Health Centers helps meet this need by offering care to everyone regardless of insurance status or homelessness.

Medical care at Advantage is provided using a Family Medicine model. Our Family Practice physicians and Nurse Practitioners are experienced in caring for persons at all stages of life, and they facilitate the participation of each patient in decisions about their care.

Our four health centers provide medical, dental and social work services to all persons regardless of insurance status, but we do rely on patient fees and insurance payments (including Medicare and Medicaid) for a significant portion of our funding. Discounts are offered to self- paying patients based on household income, and we do not deny medical care because of an inability to pay. Confidential translator services are available to all patients.
